Surprise Proposal Photography at UBC Rose Gardens
We really enjoy doing surprise proposal photography. There is something so fun about being included in the wedding story from the beginning, and we were really blessed to be able to document this proposal, engagement session and wedding from beginning to end over a year and a half!
When we first met Shashika he had some different ideas about how he might propose but needed help clarifying the best way to get great photographs of it. It was important to Shashika that he propose in the location where they first met – they had first met at UBC as law students and first passed each other in the Rose Garden, and then later connected at a gathering in the dorms.
We decided we would arrive about 30 minutes before them in the Rose garden and pretended to be photography students just photographing the flowers, and of course we set up the location with him ahead of time so once he got into place we were also in an inconspicuous location to start photographing the proposal. Once he got down on one knee of course she realized what was happening, so we were able to move in a bit closer and actually get her reaction.
Once the actual proposal was over we actually ended up going around the campus to some of the places that were meaningful for them and shot some portraits in those locations, what was super cute was that while we did this we actually ran into some of their friends on campus and we were also able to capture that magical excitement of sharing the wonderful news with friends.
