Intimate Gay Wedding at UBC’s Koerner’s Pub
Aaron & Adrian had the sweetest intimate wedding at Koerner’s pub this past spring. We felt so excited to be a part of their special day! I always feel particularly protective of any queer or gay wedding, because I, myself am bisexual and I just know what we’ve collectively had to go through to have the same rights to love and justice in marriage. So gay weddings always hold a special place in my heart and I always feel that much more dedicated to documenting them well – there’s just something about having the opportunity to tell our own stories about love.
I also really love that because queer and gay weddings subvert heteronormativity there is no “traditional” way things have to go that we have to adhere to. There’s no “hiding the bride beforehand” or “having to do things in a traditional order” or “heteronormative posing” required – which means there is just absolute freedom of creativity!
One way that we mixed things up for this weddding was getting all of the family portraits done prior to the start of the ceremony – this allowed the couple to just spend time with their nearest and dearest once the festivities began and we just loved that! Their nephews were particularly important to them so we were able to capture some really sweet moments of them just living their best uncle lives with their nephews.
Even though it started to rain part way through their outdoor wedding ceremony nothing kept these two from smiling and their love for each other just beamed from them all day long! We we’re also really lucky that it stopped raining just long enough to capture a sparkler shot at the end of the night which they were really hoping for!
