Roadtrip through BC

This past long weekend was pretty much the last wedding-free weekend we had to ourselves until September so we decided to head east into the British Columbian interior on a roadtrip. Of course I ended up doing three separate shoots up there (just for the love of it!) and shot a total of 1600 frames + a roll of film while I was there. Here’s the first peek at our roadtrip.

We stopped just outside of Hope for a quick hike on the way up, and took the Hope-Princeton highway, and then the Nicola Valley highway after a quick rest stop & bite to eat in Merritt. We left the house early (around 7am) and arrived in Shuswap at nearly 4pm, so it was quite a drive (and of course I stopped to take a ton of pictures). I would love to shoot more weddings up in the interior of BC just because it’s such a dramatically different landscape than the Fraser Valley landscape I’m used to seeing! I love the dry arid desert landscape of Merritt, and the rolling hills of Kamloops. The open rivers and lakes and dramatic waterfalls all make for stunning backdrops I don’t often get to shoot! Of course I love a good old country scene too. Something about old dilapidated barns, and rusty antique farm equipment gets me a little excited (don’t ask) and I love shooting around it. I think they just add such great character to what is otherwise often a barren minimalistic country scene!

I just love the variety the interior has to offer. I can’t wait to go back. Stay tuned this week for a sneak peek of everything else we shot up there. :)
