Two Girls in Love | Engagement Session

Yowza, just realized how far behind we are in blogging! We shot this back in July of 2014, but honestly the past 8 months we’ve been furiously shooting & delivering images to clients so our blog isn’t super up to date – unfortunately its the first thing to fall to the wayside when we have pictures to deliver!

So there’s kind of a funny back story to this shoot (well, funny for me anyways). For the last three years I’ve had a gay wedding curse. I guess I should call it the lesbian wedding curse. Yup. It’s a thing. Every lesbian couple who had booked with us over the past few years had called their wedding off. I was actually beginning to think it was me — that somehow I had jinxed their relationships or something. It was starting to make me a bit panicky so when Kate & Kerry booked their wedding with us, I had to get out there and quickly shoot a gay wedding to break the curse. It was the only option. I couldn’t bear to ruin their future marriage with whatever sort of voodoo curse I had. So I tagged along with John Bello earlier last year to shoot a gay wedding and break the curse.

You’ll be happy to know that Kate & Kerry are now happily married (we did shoot their wedding in November) and the curse is now officially broken. LGBT couples around the world, it is now safe to book with Love Tree, we promise not to wreck your relationship!

We actually had a ton of fun shooting these two girls in love. I’ve never been a big fan of standing around in a park for engagement sessions and really like when our couples engage in some sort of activity while we shoot. The main reason for this is the it helps our clients get used to the idea that they don’t need to stare straight into the lens every time we pick up the camera – it’s a habit we try to break before the wedding, because the last thing we want is our clients looking at us asking “what should we do next?” We really want everyone to feel comfortable just being themselves in front of the camera, and to know that we love and accept them just as they are!

Kerry owns a painting company, so when they suggested that Kate tag along for work and help Kerry paint an interior we were stoked!
