Vancouver Wedding Photographer | Featured Gallery | Kids at Weddings

One of my favourite things to photograph is kids at weddings. There are two unpredictable elements of weddings: Children and animals. What a love most about both is that they are brutally honest with the camera. There’s no ego, no pretentiousness, just pure authentic being.

Most of my favourite weddings over the years have been ones where children are present. I can’t exactly say why – I suppose children just bring a certain youthful energy with them that can’t be found elsewhere. Even when they are bored, cranky, hungry or tired they tend to just say what the rest of us are thinking, and I love that about children.

I’ve seen so many wonderful couples do things to include kids at weddings such as:

• Providing the kids with activities like colouring
• Hiring professional childcare so the parents can relax
• Serving dinner early, especially if the ceremony was long
• Setting up a games area or craft area
• Creating special favor/loot bags with puzzles or toys
• Setting up quiet areas for naps / breastfeeding
• Booking a photobooth (Like our wonderful wooden one…)
• Setting up fun lawn games
• Giving the kids disposable cameras and an “I spy” shot list (plus you get back great photographs from a child’s perspective!)
• Have a “kids only” dance on the dance floor
• A bouncy castle or ball pit (especially if it’s big enough for adults too)
