Rustic + Romantic Burnaby Lake Rowing Pavilion Wedding | Monique + Jeff
In a city that prides itself on being progressively green and eco-friendly it made sense that Monique & Jeff had a DIY eco-chic wedding. Set among the trees overlooking the Capilano Lake and the Cleveland Dam in North Vancouver Monique & Jeff exchanged vows near the trails where they like to hike. I can easily say its one of the pretty locations in Vancouver to have an outdoor wedding ceremony.
The ceremony was decorated with tree trunks they had found online by searching for homeowners who had cut down trees and were looking to get rid of the excess wood. They reused mason jars and filled them with fresh cut flowers from potted plants they had purchased that could later be replanted.
The wearing party wore casual attire from H&M that could be worn again to avoid excess waste of materials, each with custom gifts (wooden heart rings for the bridesmaids and belt buckles for the groomsmen).
To make their ceremony unique Monique and Jeff physically tied a knot together with two pieces of rope that they could hang in their home as a heirloom from their magical day.
Their reception, which took place overlooking Burnaby Lake at the Burnaby Lake Rowing Club, was equally as eco-chic. Their seating chart made from wood and jute was handmade, along with their table centerpieces, which includes cribbage boards for their guests to play and a mini-crafting station for guests to create hand written notes for the couple. The backdrop to their headtable (made with tulle, and burlap) was also made by hand with the help of their wedding party, and included a vintage saw, hand-painted by the groom.
Even their wedding rings ring reflected their beliefs – Jeff’s was hand carved by a goldsmith/friend who designed with a faux-bois finish, and Monique’s was of an antique design, showing her love for all things vintage.
Jeff and Monique proved that you don’t need an extravagant budget to have an extravagant wedding, and your wedding doesn’t need to be harmful to the environment in order to be beautiful.
