It’s not too often that we get to shoot weddings for friends these days as we tend to get booked up so far in advance that we can’t even usually attend their weddings, but every once in awhile we do get to, and those weddings are so, so dear to our hearts. We were blessed late last year with the honour and privilege of documenting our dear friends Bjorn & Jessica’s wedding.
What was supposed to be a rainy miserable day, as predicted by the weather man the night before their wedding turned out to be one of the most warm and beautiful days October could have offered. I was delighted to wake up with a little sunshine on my face the morning of their wedding. I headed over to Jessica’s parent’s place in the morning, while my good friend and second shooter Cat McLaren headed over to Bjorn’s pad where the boys were getting ready. Once everyone was dressed, and makeup’d and hair’d we headed for Deer Lake Park in Burnaby where we shot a first look, and the majority of portraits before heading to St. Francis DeSales for their Catholic wedding ceremony. The ceremony was a beautiful blend of cultures under one religion. Jessica’s family came dressed in traditional Korean clothing, while Bjorn’s side came in traditional Norwegian clothing. It was incredible to see the two families meeting, hugging, and crying tears of joy together. Never in my life have I ever seen two families more emotional and full of love at a wedding ceremony.
After the ceremony we headed to the Riverway Golf Course in Burnaby where the couple kicked their party off with a little Gangnam Style where (no offence Jess) Bjorn stole the spotlight impressing everything with his slick dance moves! The couple enjoyed an incredible buffet, games, dancing, photobooth pictures, cake and of course a traditional Korean ceremony where they poured a type of Korean sake for their families and their families threw chestnuts for the couple to catch in hopes they’d have many healthy, happy babies! There wasn’t a dry eye in the house (Cat and I included) as we shot their touching first dance pictures. I swear I could barely see through my tears enough to shoot.
I cannot thank the two of them enough for sharing this incredible day with me and Cat. Cat pretty much nailed it as we were packing up our gear at the end of the night: “This wedding has changed the way I shoot.” For that gift we cannot thank Bjorn & Jessica enough.
We send the newly weds much love, years of happiness and many moments that are so full of joy they evoke tears! All our love, All of us at Love Tree Photography
