Spanish Banks Portrait Session | Daria
It’s not too often that I accept commissions for solo portraits, but every once in awhile something comes in that just totally inspires me. When I met Timofey back in 2011 he had come in to talk to me about a portrait session for the love of his life Daria. He told me that he wanted her to feel really beautiful and that completely moved me, he purchased a gift certificate for a private session for her and then I didn’t hear anything back from them for awhile. Fast forward to 2013, I received an email from Daria, who was nervous for her session, but excited to finally book it. She met up with Gemma Spierings of Gem’s Hair and Makeup, earlier in the afternoon to style her hair and makeup before we headed down to the very windy Spanish Banks for her portrait session.
Golden hour is my absolute favourite time of day to shoot (as with most photographers) the sunlight can be just ethereal at that time of day. It has this hauntingly soft, heavenly glow about it that is flattering on absolutely everybody. If given a choice I’d shoot all my wedding portraits at this time of day. The sky is often much more dramatic as well. Even with partly cloudy skies what happened down on the beach was magic. Although it was a chilly January day, Daria just totally opened up and let go, and the results were beautiful.
I can safely say these are some of my all time favourite portraits. Take a look.
