Colour consistency
Deciding on wedding colours can be a challenge for any bride, but no matter the colours your choose make sure you stick with them on everything. Your table décor, napkins, bridesmaid dresses, bouquets, flowers, programs, invitations, cake, and tiny details like your hairpiece, cufflinks, ties, shoes, drink umbrellas & straws should all coordinate with the palette you select. Unless you are opting for a palette that has different shades and tones of the same colour then try to keep all the colours in the exact same shade by providing all your vendors with swatches.
Attention to details
Magazines love to see the details that make your wedding truly unique. If you are having a beach wedding consider adding some shells to your bouquet. If your wedding has a glitzy theme consider adding some sparkling embellishments to your fingernails. If you want a vintage style wedding consider borrowing a string of pearls from your grandmother. Other places you might want to add a few coordinating details besides the dinner tables might be: the guestbook table, the cake table, the DJ booth, your photobooth, your hairpiece, shoe embellishments, bar décor/specialty drinks, the seating chart.
Don’t be too sparse with the ceremony décor
If you’re going to hang DIY tissue paper pom-poms or paper lanterns from the ceiling make sure you hang enough of them! Sparse décor doesn’t have the same impact or effect and really full, dense décor, which looks much more elegant & visually stunning. If you’re going to line your aisleway with petals, make sure you have a ton of them, or just line the edges of the aisleway with them, but randomly scattered petals actually tend to look a bit messy when it comes to photos. It might take a little longer to make more of your DIY décor but when it comes to the ceremony décor more is better.
Find a unique (and cheaper!) alternative to floral centerpieces
You can achieve that elegant table décor look without breaking the bank with exotic flora and fauna. Moss, seashells, driftwood, pinecones, bamboo, herbs, lavender, dried twigs, & branches can all make fabulous décor. It’s all courtesy of mother earth if you take the time to find & collect it. Best of all its totally different & unique, which is what wedding magazines are looking for.
Make it your own
Before worrying about beautiful flowers, and themes and colours you should ask yourself if your wedding actually reflects you, your fiancé and your relationship. If you are both outgoing, fun party people it doesn’t make much sense to have a conservative black tie affair with dark elegant colours & crystal chandeliers, just because you like the way they looked at someone else’s wedding on a blog. In the same regard, if you are both quiet homebodies, it might not make much sense to have a wild wedding with hot pink chairs, 300 guests and live rock & roll. Magazines are looking for a story, not just a bunch of pretty pictures so make sure your story gets told! Don’t be afraid to incorporate family traditions, ethnic customs, and things you love. If you take a road trip each year think around arriving to your wedding in a brightly coloured VW van instead of a traditional limo. Unique elements that speak about you and your relationship are more likely to get published then the $7000 designer dress you wore because your mother in law told you to.
Great article! Its something brides actually think about, and a very no nonsense approach! PS – wicked images!
