Widgeon Falls Engagement Session in Pitt Meadows
It isn’t often that you can combine a beautiful canoe trip, a forest hike and a visit to a waterfall.
This Widgeon Falls engagement session in Pitt Meadows has been a long time coming. You may remember that a couple years back we tried to canoe with Rebecca & Bruce, but got totally rained out for their shoot. We had been wanting to do this hike and canoe since FOREVER.
The total length of the hiking trip was 6 hours. We had a hard time finding a couple who wanted to go on this adventure with us. When Steph and Andrew said they were down for a hiking adventure we were stoked.
We were a little weary with dark clouds looming overhead but the weatherman promised sun. We decided to go for it anyways.
To get to the waterfall it’s quite an epic journey. First, you have to rent a canoe. You have to go early to get a canoe because there is a limited amount available!
Once you’re in your canoe its about 4.5km up the Widgeon Slough to the trailhead. The hike itself is actually decently easy. It’s flat for a large portion of it, which is nice because we were carrying a lot of camera equipment.
The hike to the waterfall is around an hour, through the gorgeous cedar and pine rainforest. If you go during the late summer the slough gets quite low and you have to carry the canoe at points. The plus side is there are awesome little pools to swim in above and below the falls. We did this trip in early June. There was still a lot of snow runoff from the mountains, so we couldn’t swim.
Fun Facts:
There is a campsite at the trailhead that is only accessible by canoe.
