Snowshoeing Engagement Session at the Sea to Sky Gondola
Alison and Kevin had a snowshoeing adventure for their engagement session at the Sea to Sky Gondola.
The Sea to Sky Gondola is currently down. This is a bit sad because it really did offer a magnificent view of the Howe Sound, and was accessible, so it allowed folks who otherwise cannot make the hike an opportunity to engage with nature. On August 10th, 2019 the cables on the gondola were cut, causing mass damage to the cables and roughly 20 cars. The unexpected mid-summer closure left couples scrambling for new wedding venues, since the deck at the top is a popular viewpoint for wedding ceremonies.
The Sea to Sky Gondola is expected to reopen in the spring of 2020.
The Sea to Sky Gondola is located on the unceded and traditional land of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh people. The gondola was a point of contention for environmental activists in the area as the developers proposed to built it on a sacred Indigenous landsite, which required the removal of 2.36 hectares of area from the provincially protected St’a7mes (Stawamus) Chief Provincial Park.
As always, we stand in solidarity with the people of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh First Nation and respect their sovereignty and right to protect their ancestral lands.
