Favourite Moments | Puff Puff Pass

Puff, puff, pass.

I think one of the best things a photographer can be is unbiased. After all, unlike other forms of art, photographers most capture what already exists.
It’s not that photographers don’t have the ability to create something new, or inspiring, or unseen by the naked eye, because tricks, and lighting, and special effects and techniques can all do that – but there is something really beautiful about also just finding the beauty in something that already exists.

When this bride and groom approached us to shoot their engagement sessions, one of the groom’s concerns was being made to look like someone other than who he was – like a chump standing in a garden full of flowers looking off in the distance with his love. For some people – they’d love that, but for him, it wasn’t him.
When I asked him what he wanted to do, he said “I just wanna smoke a joint, because that’s what we do. It’s us.”

Our response? “Then you should definitely smoke a joint together.”

Part of documenting couple really well is releasing your expectations about what their relationship “could” or “should” look like. When you do this you often come back with something even better than you could dream up. Which is why this picture of these two smoking some weed together is one of our favourite moments from the year.
